Offline Translate ("the App") provides text translation, face-to-face conversation translation, and translation of text recognized in photos or camera images. The App is designed to perform recognition and translation on your device using Apple system technologies.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is used, where it is stored, and the choices available to you.
If you choose to take a photo for translation, the App requests camera access. The captured image is used to recognize and translate visible text. The App does not add the captured image to your photo library or upload it to our servers.
If you choose an existing image, the App uses Apple's system photo picker to access the image you select. The selected image is used only for on-device text recognition and translation. The App does not scan your entire photo library.
Conversation translation requires microphone and speech-recognition access. Audio is used to create a transcript through Apple's on-device speech-recognition service. The App requests on-device recognition, does not save your audio recordings, and does not upload them to our servers.
The App uses Apple Translation for translation, Apple Vision for text recognition in images, Apple's on-device speech recognition for spoken input, and Apple speech synthesis for reading translations aloud.
Text you enter, speech transcripts, selected images, recognized text, and translation results are not sent to servers operated by us. We do not operate an account, translation, analytics, or advertising server for the App.
Some languages require an Apple language model to be downloaded before offline translation is available. The operating system may connect to Apple services to check availability or download these models. These transfers are handled by Apple and are subject to Apple's terms and privacy practices.
For text and conversation translation, the App stores a local history containing the original text, translated text, source and target languages, translation mode, date, and processing time. History is limited to the most recent 300 records.
Translation history is encrypted on your device using AES-GCM. Its encryption key is stored in the iOS Keychain. You can delete all translation history from the App's settings.
Photos, camera images, recognized image text, and image translation overlays are held only as needed for the current translation session and are not added to translation history. The App does not create a stored archive of images or audio recordings.
The App may store local preferences, such as your selected interface language, so your choices can be restored the next time you use the App.
Local app data may be included in device backups according to your iOS and Apple backup settings. Those backups are managed by Apple, not by us.
The App checks the device's general connectivity state, such as Wi-Fi, cellular, or offline, so it can explain whether a required language model can be downloaded. This check does not inspect your network traffic, browsing activity, network names, or the contents of other apps' communications.
Apple may provide crash logs or diagnostic information if you have enabled sharing analytics with developers in iOS settings. We use any reports made available to us only to improve the App's stability and performance. These reports are controlled by Apple and your device settings.
If you contact us by email, we receive the information you choose to send, such as your email address, message, screenshots, or device details. We use that information only to respond to your request and maintain reasonable support records. Please avoid including sensitive translation content unless it is necessary for your request.
Local translation history and preferences remain on your device until you clear them, remove them through the App where that option is available, or delete the App. Support emails are retained only as long as needed to provide support and maintain reasonable business records.
The App limits processing to your device and encrypts stored translation history. No method of storage is completely secure, but on-device processing and encrypted local storage reduce exposure of your content.
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the App does not operate a translation-upload or account service, we do not knowingly receive children's translation content, images, or audio.
The App may be available in multiple regions. Information you choose to send by email, and data handled by Apple services, may be processed according to the policies, infrastructure, and applicable laws of those service providers and regions.
We may update this Privacy Policy when the App changes or legal requirements evolve. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date.
